The “Volcanes de Calatrava. Ciudad Real” geopark is
located in the south of the central plateau, in Spain.
It is a unique territory due to its rich geological, natural,
historical, and cultural heritage, that covers
40 municipalities.
11th International
Conference 8-12 sept / Araucanía Region, Chile
This Geopark chronicles a long and complex geological
history. Its materials (mercury, coal and magma) tell the
history of a geological process spanning approximately
600 million years, from the Precambrian limit until today.
Volcanism is present in this long history, and with great
significance, at three key geological enclaves:
GEOPARK
Almadén
450-420 million
Puertollano
300 million
Campo de Calatrava
