Vulcano Program: Education and heritage the “Volcanes de Calatrava Ciudad Real” GEOPARK ( SPAIN)
PROGRAMA VULCANO: EDUCACIÓN Y PATRIMONIO EN EL GEOPARQUE VOLCANES DE CALATRAVA. CIUDAD REAL (CASTILLA-LA MANCHA, ESPAÑA) This Geopark chronicles a long and complex geological history. Its materials (mercury, coal and magma) tell the history of a geological process spanning approximately 600 million years, from the Precambrian limit until today. Volcanism is present in this long history, and with great significance, at three key geological enclaves: The “Vulcano program” is one of the key pillars of the Geopark. Its aim is to bring the values of the region’s geological, natural, and cultural heritage closer to the educational community, promoting knowledge, appreciation, and protection of this unique environment. This program is a key tool to encourage active learning and to strengthen the connection between students and their environment through an innovative educational approach committed to sustainability and the local territory. This educational program includes: 25 activity sheets for classroom work: . Prepared by the teachers who conducted the training courses. . Coordinated by the Provincial Delegation of Ciudad Real of the Regional Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, and in collaboration with members of the Geopark Scientific Committee. . Aimed at students of different educational levels and different subjects. . The main objective is to provide tools for teachers to teach their students about the Geopark. . A field notebook for working outside of class. Students who visit and complete information on 10 geosites will receive a diploma certifying them as a "Geopark Volcanologist." _____________ Este Geoparque narra una larga y compleja historia geológica. Sus materiales (mercurio, carbón y magma) narran la historia de un proceso geológico que abarca aproximadamente 600 millones de años, desde el límite Precámbrico hasta la actualidad. El vulcanismo está presente en esta larga historia, y con gran importancia, en tres enclaves geológicos clave: --- El programa Vulcano es uno de los pilares fundamentales del Geoparque. Su objetivo es acercar los valores del patrimonio geológico, natural y cultural de la región a la comunidad educativa, promoviendo el conocimiento, la apreciación y la protección de este entorno único. Este programa es una herramienta clave para fomentar el aprendizaje activo y fortalecer la conexión del alumnado con su entorno mediante un enfoque educativo innovador, comprometido con la sostenibilidad y el territorio local. Este programa educativo incluye: 25 fichas de actividades para el trabajo en el aula: Elaboradas por el profesorado que impartió los cursos de formación. Coordinado por la Delegación Provincial de Ciudad Real de la Consejería de Educación, Cultura y Deporte, y en colaboración con miembros del Comité Científico del Geoparque. Dirigido a estudiantes de diferentes niveles educativos y asignaturas.

- 2. The “Volcanes deCalatrava. Ciudad Real” geopark is located in the south of the central plateau, in Spain. It is a unique territory due to its rich geological, natural, historical, and cultural heritage, that covers 40 municipalities.
